EDWARDS, Allan

No.5828589, Private, Allan EDWARDS
Aged 24

5th Battalion, Suffolk Regiment
Died on Saturday, 17th November 1945

The only clue so far to this man's identity is East Anglian Daily Times "Suffolk Roll of Honour 1939-1945" which lists Allan Edwards in the Suffolk Regiment and this man alone fits the bill.

Born in 1921 (Ely Q3-1921 3B:899), son of Bertram and Edith EDWARDS (née DAY).

In the 1939 register, at High Post Farm, West Row, were his father Bertram A EDWARDS [3]3]1890] a farmer; his mother Edith[ 8-2-1890]; brothers Cyril W [13-4-1913] horseman, Bertram H [24-5-1914] lorry driver, Reginald [21-8-1918] tractor driver and Donald E [16-1-1931]; sisters Vera [16-9-1923] (later MARSHALL) and Joan E [28-11-1926] (later SHIPP). There is one closed record.

Allan had been a prisoner of the Japanese, so presumably captured at the surrender of Singapore.
Still a bit of a mystery, but considering the date of his death his death was presumably due to illness or disease. Where is completely unknown , Madras being chosen to move all those graves in South and East India that could not otherwise be maintained. .
