No.5828589, Private, Allan EDWARDS
Aged 24
The only clue so far to this man's identity is East Anglian Daily Times "Suffolk Roll of Honour 1939-1945" which lists Allan Edwards in the Suffolk Regiment and this man alone fits the bill. Born in 1921 (Ely Q3-1921 3B:899), son of Bertram and Edith EDWARDS (née DAY). In the 1939 register, at High Post Farm, West Row, were his father Bertram A EDWARDS [3]3]1890] a farmer; his mother Edith[ 8-2-1890]; brothers Cyril W [13-4-1913] horseman, Bertram H [24-5-1914] lorry driver, Reginald [21-8-1918] tractor driver and Donald E [16-1-1931]; sisters Vera [16-9-1923] (later MARSHALL) and Joan E [28-11-1926] (later SHIPP). There is one closed record. |
Allan had been a prisoner of the Japanese, so presumably captured at the surrender of Singapore. Still a bit of a mystery, but considering the date of his death his death was presumably due to illness or disease. Where is completely unknown , Madras being chosen to move all those graves in South and East India that could not otherwise be maintained. . |
